The last few weeks Tyson has been under a huge workload of schoolwork as he's been studying for his MA exam. To get your Master's in Spanish at CU Boulder, an exam is required instead of a thesis. Each student picks 3 areas of emphasis (i.e., Tyson's were 19th Century Spain, Medieval Spain Literature, and 19th Century Latin America), then read between 25-50 books for each area, and then there are two written exams (one written exam is for your "main" area, and the other one is for the other two areas chosen) and one oral exam in front of the three professors who are "over" that area.
This stack of books in our bedroom (right) has taken up permanent residence the last few weeks, and is a fraction of what Tyson has read. The other stack of books (top) is at his desk in the graduate study section of the library. There are still more at his office, and others around the house. But not for long! After months of preparation, the time for the tests had arrived. Last week were his written exams, and this morning was his oral. And he PASSED! He still has to finish his last two classes (and pass them) this semester, but overall the hardest part is over!!!
Congrats to you Tyson! We love you lots and are excited to celebrate on our Spring Break Road Trip next week! (barring nothing like last year happens!)

Holy cow, that's a lot of books! I'd almost rather write a thesis than do all that! What a relief that he passed--good for Tyson!
